September marked twenty years since President Clinton signed the legislation creating AmeriCorps. In Ohio, we can celebrate the broad and diverse support that national service enjoys among our elected leaders. Senator Rob Portman, Senator Sherrod Brown, and Representative Marcia Fudge all took time to congratulate AmeriCorps and voice their support for national service.

Senator Rob Portman congratulated the men and women who have served and who continue to serve through AmeriCorps, saying, “I applaud the dedication of you and your members to making a difference on critical issues facing our state and our nation.” Make sure Sen. Portman knows you appreciate his support.

His colleague, Senator Sherrod Brown, himself a longtime supporter of national service, echoed a congratulatory tone, adding, “AmeriCorps demonstrates a profound commitment to address critical concerns and to serve vulnerable members of our communities.” Let Sen. Brown know that you appreciate his committment to national service.

AmeriCorps members work with many of our state’s most needed organizations like City Year Cleveland, Ohio Association of Foodbanks, The Literacy Cooperative, and countless others. Their work has not gone unnoticed. Our leaders are behind us when it comes to national service and we need to let them know that we’re behind them! Let Senator Portman, Senator Brown, & Representative Fudge know you appreciate their support. Drop them a thank you note today.
