This isn’t a call for justice or better police work or about the racial implications of the shooting of Trayvon Martin, although these things are all important.
I just wanted to let you know that the man who shot Mr. Martin can, now, at this very moment, legally carry a concealed gun in our bars and restaurants and in our parks and in your neighborhood’s streets.
Because Ohio recognizes Florida concealed carry permits, Ohio gives Florida a say in who can legally carry a gun here. Even though Mr. Martin’s killer was the subject of a court order to prevent domestic violence, was arrested for assaulting a police officer, and shot a teenager to death, Florida continues to allow him to carry a hidden, loaded gun.
So Ohio lets him carry hidden, loaded guns here too.
