Republican Tea Party supporters have a great record of picking winners in the 2012 primaries and caucuses so far, with the sole exception of Ohio.

So shows a new analysis of exit polls in the primary states. The analysis, conducted by the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank, shows that Tea Party members in Ohio voted for the second-place candidate, Rick Santorum, and not for the winner, Mitt Romney. In every other state where data were available, Tea Party members picked the winner.

Voting results analyzed by The Plain Dealer showed that Mr. Romney won by carrying Ohio’s three largest urban areas, Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland. Mr. Santorum carried the state’s rural areas.
