“Personhood Amendment” Could Find Its Way on Ohio Ballot

English: 8-cell human embryo, day 3

Under the "personhood amendment," these eight cells would have full legal rights. Image via Wikipedia.

Anti-choice radicals are attempting to put a constitutional amendment on Ohio’s ballot in 2012.

It’s called the “personhood amendment.” You may have heard about failed attempts to pass such an amendment in Mississippi.

The amendment would declare that a person exists upon fertilization of a female egg, outlawing abortions by giving legal status to a fetus.  Abortion (even in cases of rape or incest) would be considered murder under Ohio law.  This amendment even threatens contraception and in vitro fertilization.

Amendments like this one are an ugly attack on women in Ohio. Please click here to sign a petition against the “personhood amendment” right now.
